Reputable journalist Stephen McGowan has provided an update on the ongoing transfer speculation involving Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley and Brighton.

According to McGowan, Brighton has officially approached Celtic to inquire about the asking price for O’Riley. [MailSport]
Celtic is holding out for a record-breaking fee, believed to be around £25 million, to part ways with one of their standout performers. This valuation follows previous bids from other clubs that fell short of Celtic’s expectations. Notably, Atletico Madrid’s offer of £18 million was rejected in January, and more recently, Atalanta’s £15 million bid was also turned down.
Given the previous unsuccessful attempts by other clubs to meet Celtic’s valuation, Brighton’s approach may need to significantly align with Celtic’s financial expectations if they really want to secure a deal.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Matt O’Riley will surely be looking to play European football this season, something that Brighton can’t offer. Chris Sutton has given his thoughts on the transfer, saying that he hopes the Dane will stay at Celtic to play in the Champions League this season.
