Starfelt Insists Celts Must-Have Resistance In The Way They Play

Celtic defender Carl Starfelt has insisted that he and his Hoops teammates are becoming more comfortable alongside one another in the way Ange Postecoglou wants to play football.

The Swedish internationalist picked up the man of the match award after his display in the backline on Thursday evening in a 1-0 win over Hearts at Parkhead.

Having just returned from a recent hamstring injury, Starfelt slotted straight back into the backline alongside Stephen Welsh and continued to show improvements in his performance.

Starfelt believes this is a testament to how the squad are growing and gelling into an Ange Postecoglou side in the way they play football, which continues to develop every week.

“You can’t only play one way,” he said, as quoted by the Herald.

“Everyone knows we want to dominate games and have the ball. We want to be in the opponents’ half, but sometimes you have to show resistance because you will not dominate the game for 90 minutes. There are times you have to show something else.

“The team is getting more comfortable in the way we are playing. We are getting to know each other better.

“I am not getting carried away with just one performance. I’ll continue to work hard, but I think we are all finding a little bit of security in our system, and we are on a good run now, so we have to keep enjoying playing football and keep winning games. That’s what we want to do.”

Starfelt is the prime example of the improvements under Ange. He faced a bit of a difficult start but has since grown to impressive the Celtic support with his solid performances at the back.

It is good to hear that the squad are becoming more and more comfortable in the way Ange wants them to play football, which is clear to see in some of the recent performances.
