FORMER Scotland star Kevin Gallagher has urged Celtic’s Scottish players to move on from the club or risk stagnating in their career.

Gallagher who played in a World Cup with Scotland believed the likes of Callum McGregor, Kieran Tierney and James Forrest could all progress elsewhere which would hugely benefit the national team.

Speaking after the shocking result in Kazakhstan and the subsequent backlash, Gallagher seemed to target the Celtic bhoys for not doing all they can to get ahead in the game.

The former player cites the plethora of trophies the lads have already won and whether it’s time to cut the chord and look for a new challenge.

Celtic have fantastically talented players who are not always used in the proper manner while on Scotland duty and to try and push them away from the pressure at Celtic where there is a demand to be the best at all times is pretty poor.

Gallagher believed a change of scenery could be the making of them and cites the likes of Lambert and John Collins as blueprints.

“From my playing days, I recall the difference it made when John Collins and Paul Lambert moved to Monaco and Borussia Dortmund.” Gallagher told SunSport.

“Their technique, fitness and understanding improved, and Paul picked up a Champions League winner’s medal, too.

“Going abroad would be hard work. Perhaps players are in a comfort zone and reluctant to experience a different culture, because it’s easy for them when they’re not being tested.

“The Celtic lads, for example. I’m a fan and I’m not pushing anyone away from Parkhead, but they’re about to win the league for the eighth year in a row.

“Is that enough for them?

Is the challenge to win a quadruple Treble or make it ten-in-a-row? Maybe it is.

“But you can’t help but become stagnant playing the same clubs five or six times every season.

“Is six European group games every season or two enough for them? Being tested at another club in a bigger league could be the answer.”

All three men are under lengthy contracts and seem very happy at the club.
