‘Staggered’ – Michael Stewart Makes Bold Leigh Griffiths Statement

BT and BBC Sport pundit, Michael Stewart has called for Celtic striker, Leigh Griffiths to receive a recall to the Scotland National side and he believes he could be the man to fire them to the first major tournament in over 20 years.

As reported by the Sun, Stewart thinks Griffiths is exactly what this side needs, to defeat Serbia next month and take them to Euro 2020.

”Leigh Griffiths showed last week he can still score a goal out of absolutely nothing.

“Now Steve Clarke has to take the striker with him to Serbia to give us something to believe in next month.”

”But we don’t have to play anti-football to reach the finals — and that’s where Griffiths comes in for me.

“I’ll be honest, I was staggered he wasn’t in the squad in the first place. His goal at St Johnstone last week was enough to get him back in the frame, for me.

At the moment, the only two strikers Scotland have are Oli McBurnie and Lyndon Dykes, who both featured from the start on Thursday night.

Griffiths could find himself, extremely unfortunate that this tie wasn’t played on its original date, back in March before the Coronavirus pandemic hit.

Since then, he has struggled with a few problems such as fitness which has seen him left out of several squads.

In recent weeks, he has made a return though and even managed to come on as a sub last Sunday and score a crucial goal for the hoops against St Johnstone.

There is no doubt that Griffiths could be a crucial figure for this Scotland side when it comes to qualifying next month. The only thing we need to worry about is if he can stay fit enough to play.
