St Johnstone Issue Pitch Update

CELTIC take on St Johnstone this weekend looking to keep their winning run going at the home side’s expense.

Many games up and down Scotland in the past week have succumbed to the poor weather conditions and heavy snowfall throughout the country.

Given there has been a sizeable amount of snowfall in the Perth area, it’s a reasonable thing to suggest if Sunday’s came could fall into the postponed category.

We still have the whole of Saturday to go before the kick-off on Sunday, but right now, the home side are on top of things.

Callum Davidson told the Glasgow Times there’s no inclination a pitch inspection will be needed on Sunday unless there’s heavy snowfall in the next 24 hours, the game will be played and go off without a hitch.

“We want to keep a bit of snow on it. Obviously, with the drop in temperature that will help it a bit.

“We trained today. With all the staff upstairs we had a shovel, and we cleared an area of snow.

“The good thing was with the snow so heavy it has actually insulated the astroturf. We managed to get a 50 x 30 area to train on.

“We had a good session today, and we will just wait and see tomorrow what is going on.

“It was actually quite therapeutic shovelling the snow off the astroturf. I enjoyed it.

“If we want to get a good training session, we might as well get it done.”

Celtic can make it four wins on the bounce if they can get past St Johnstone. The league isn’t a realistically achievable goal any more, but it’s a must that these players continue to keep going from now until the end of the season.
