The Scottish Professional Football League has reported a record turnover of £44.3 million, marking the highest figure in its history, according to the league’s newly-published annual accounts.

This represents a £2.4 million (6%) increase from last year’s previous record of £41.9 million.
The growth has been largely driven by the league’s new Sky Sports TV deal, as well as increased revenue from domestic and international broadcasting agreements.
The payouts to clubs are matching the 6% rise, with clubs receiving an extra £2 million this season.
This season, the Scottish Premiership champions will receive 13.4% of the total distribution pot, equating to £4.52 million. While it’s still a long way from the astronomical figures seen in the English Premier League, every bit of financial boost helps Scottish clubs stay competitive domestically and in Europe.
In addition to these distributions, £2.1 million from net gate receipts has been shared among the four clubs that reached the Premier Sports Cup semi-finals and final at Hampden Park.
It’s good to see that the money involved in the Scottish game is increasing, even if it’s ever so slightly.
The numbers will never match what we see down south, but ever little increase helps Scottish football keep up, or attempt to, with other leagues around Europe.
