The SPFL fixtures have been released for the coming season and Celtic now know the road ahead. There are a couple of speed bumps on the way but none more so than the one at the end of August for the Scottish Champions and even their Glasgow rivals.
The decision to play the Glasgow Derby on August 30 will come as a surprise to many with both clubs hoping to be part of playoff qualifiers in Europe.
All going well, Celtic should be playing their second leg of the playoff round of the Champions League qualifiers a few days before the tie(27/28 August:). If the Ibrox club negotiates their way to the Europa playoffs then they will also be playing midweek.
It’s a strange time to have the fixture with the SPFL wanting to try and make sure the clubs have the best chance of qualifying for Europe. One eye could be on the powderkeg fixture and having a monumental tie in the build-up to a Glasgow derby is anxiety inducing.
