SPFL Latest: Five Clubs Want Season Called with ‘Immediate Effect’

It is being reported that another SPFL meeting will be scheduled for MONDAY after last weeks meeting to discuss how to move forward. Right now, the SPFL are continuing to try and forge ahead with The Rangers still to hand over a dossier about the proposal not being above board.

RecordSport is reporting, there’re at least five clubs who want the league season to be called in the coming days because they would not have enough players to see out the season.

The paper writes: ‘Scotland top-flight clubs will get back around the virtual table again on Monday to discuss ending the season with immediate effect’

Contracts come to an end in June, but if football was to come back, it would be a summer event. Many Scottish clubs can’t look at extending these deals because they don’t have the cash flow to make it happen.

The French League was called because the government in France said there could be no football before September – meeting UEFA parameters to call the season.

The SPFL look like they will come under the second bracket UEFA have instituted to end a league season. Any league who would come under financial hardship by trying to play the season out at a later date can also call it.

With financial hardship certainly going to be an issue, the government could also step in and make it impossible for football to return this summer.

It looks more and more likely that football is done this season.

If the season is called, Celtic will be champions and Hearts will be relegated.
