SPFL Fixtures and Champions League Implications

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE games will come thick and fast for Celtic once they kick off in early September. The Hoops have already earned their place in Europe’s Elite competition.

It’s a whole new challenge for Ange Postecoglou who will not only have to try and plot the downfall of some of Europe’s top sides, but also do the equally important job of managing the squad when they return to SPFL action.

There are six match days for Celtic, and with that six games straight after those special European nights; three of which will be on the road, it’s imperative we don’t have any hangovers.

Here are all the games directly after a Champions League matchday:

  • After MD1: Livingston (H)
  • After MD2: St. Mirren (A)
  • After MD3: St. Johnstone (A)
  • After MD4: Hibs (H)
  • After MD5: Livingston (A)
  • After MD6: Dundee Utd (H)

There are tricky ties in there, but there’s no smoking gun fixtures like Tynecastle or Easter Road games to content with.

We want to see progress in Europe over the next few years, to do so, we must have a squad that can compete on both fronts.

Ange will know the expectations are now through the roof, it’s up to the Australian to manage them and keep Celtic on track.
