Hearts owner Ann Budge has confirmed to RecordSport Hearts WOULD take legal action if Celtic were handed the title and the Lothian side were relegated from the division.
Everyone’s stance on this is different depending what dog you have in the fight. The shut down has thrown up so many potential issues.
For Hearts, it’s their very survival in the top flight at stake. The players weren’t doing a very good job of that on the park but Ann Budge will look to defend their position if the league was sewn up as it stands.
“Well it depends on how you read the rules, and I don’t read the rules that way.
“So I think if the season was deemed to be ended then you have to go back to the rules and the rules very, very clearly state that the competition comprises 38 games.
Clearly we all know that we have not played 38 games so I don’t think it’s as simple as somebody can say ‘let’s just doom everything to be as it is and take it from there’. I don’t think that’s reasonable.
“I’d love to be able to finish the season but if we can’t then I think we need to be pragmatic about it and take a view on premature ending.
Asked if she would take legal action on behalf of her club, Budge said: “Yes, I would have to.
“Because I fundamentally disagree.”
It’s an almighty mess, unlike the top of the table, there’s only four points in it with eight games to go and that would mean five post split matches against each other to fight out who stays up and goes down.
One proposition which has been floated is the league being called as it is BUT no relegations this season. Bring two teams up from the Championship and for one season have a 14 team league with four relegation spots in the mix next term for one season only.
Unless games can finally be played, there’s going to be disgruntled clubs.
