A resolution has been presented to all Premiership clubs, proposing a ban on synthetic surfaces, with a decision pending based on the upcoming vote. To pass, the resolution requires a majority of nine out of twelve votes from the member clubs.

Should the resolution be approved, clubs currently using artificial pitches will be given a two-year grace period to transition to natural grass surfaces.

This decision comes at a time when only Kilmarnock, among the Premiership clubs, have an artificial pitch, after Livingston’s relegation. Kilmarnock had already planned to replace their synthetic pitch. However, the potential promotion of Raith Rovers, who also play on an artificial surface, could add complexity to the situation as they face St Johnstone in the playoffs.

Celtic have found it tough on these plastic pitches in recent times, so it will be good to see the back of them if the resolution does pass.
