Some Celtic Fans Were ‘Well Over the Top’ – Martin O’Neill Claims

MARTIN O’NEILL has revealed he believes Neil Lennon was treated unfairly by a section of the support last season.

Speaking to Optus sport, the former Hoops boss, who signed Neil Lennon for Celtic over 20 years ago said there were some fans who weren’t with Neil very early on:

“They fell behind Rangers in the season that they were probably expecting ten in a row

“The criticism of the manager Neil Lennon, I thought was well over the top. This was only when they were six or seven points behind and they could have easily made that up.”

Fans seen the writing on the wall early on and asked for a change that didn’t come. It disgruntled a lot of supporters who watched Celtic sleep walk into a crisis.

During the interview the Irishman was positive about Ange Postecoglou and spoke about a big moment seasonally for himself when he won the first Glasgow Derby.

O’Neill won 6-2 in his first Glasgow Derby in a match which is still talked about to this day.

Ange goes to Ibrox at the end of August just four domestic games into his run as the manager. O’Neill says nothing will hit Ange like that first Glasgow Derby, if fans are in the ground.

Celtic have to claw back a major deficit from last season. There’s a thought Celtic can’t be that bad this season and they can’t be that good. We’ll see where things lie after the first quarter of the season has gone.
