ANGE POSTECOGLOU has told his players to never turn down international duty if they are called up.
The question was put to Ange if he would ask Steve Clarke to leave out some of his Celtic stars so they’re fresh for the Glasgow Derby.
Scotland’s World Cup Qualifier with Ukraine has been postponed so Scotland will likely just be playing friendlies during the next international break.
The Celtic manager made it clear if any of his players do get called up, he will be pushing them to head out.
“I think representing your country is a special thing,” he told Celtic Youtube.
“As you are probably aware I was a national team coach. I take those things very seriously and I would never deny a player the opportunity to represent their country whether it be a friendly, an under-age tournament, or whatever.
“At the end of your career I can tell you that most people will never ask you how much you earned or which cars you drove – they’ll ask you if you played for your country or you won anything, that’s the two questions you get asked the most.
“I tell players if you can say yes to both it means you have had a pretty decent career. If Steve wants to pick all my blokes I will be more than happy.”
Some Celtic fans have always been down on international duty and the way it can affect players. Injuries can crop up and if there’s nothing at stake in the friendlies then many won’t want to see Celtic players risked.
Ultimately, Ange’s experience as the coach of Australia means he can see both sides of the coin and knows the stresses involved in clubs not wanting to release players.
Hopefully, whoever gets called up will sail through the international break and be ready for the title run-in.
Do you agree with Ange?
