Ola Solbakken rumours filling Celtic social media on Monday evening has been short lived. Football Scotland journalist Mark Hendry has stated that a mid-season loan deal is simply not on the cards due to regulatory restrictions.
Solbakken’s current season has seen him don the jerseys of both Roma and Olympiacos, making him ineligible to play for a third club in the same season.
This information puts a damper on the hopes of those who wanted to see the Norwegian winger at Celtic Park on our side. The rules are clear, and they unequivocally preclude Solbakken from joining Celtic or any other team for that matter, at least until the season concludes. You can be registered at three different clubs but you can only play for two.

However, it’s worth noting that the original rumour from Celtic underground around Solbakken’s potential move didn’t specify the nature of the offer put to Celtic.
It didn’t distinctly mention a loan or a permanent transfer, nor did they clarify if this was a move being considered for the current January window or beyond. This ambiguity leaves room for speculation about a future engagement, perhaps in the summer or later, when the regulatory barriers wouldn’t apply.
