Can someone go check if Charlie Nicholas has a fever?!
If you’re a regular reader of the site we hold former Celtic players to account when it comes to their negative spin on the club and the league in general. Charlie Nicholas and Davie Provan being the most prolific when it comes to putting their old side down for the sake of some sheckles.
Imagine our surprise this morning when we heard Charlie had been talking about Celtic again but only to discover he has been praising Neil Lennon and bringing old boss Brendan down a peg or two.
Speaking in the Express, Charlie Nicholas commented on Celtic being brought up a level by Neil Lennon since Brendan’s departure.
“Neil Lennon has taken Celtic up another level from the Brendan Rodgers era.” Nicholas claimed as cited by RecordSport.
“The first 45 minutes at Pittodrie was as good a performance as I have seen in a long time.
“You have to give Lenny credit for that.
“Yes, the squad he inherited from Rodgers was superior to every other team in Scotland, but he has improved it.
“He has adopted the technical side of the game that Rodgers built and added speed and urgency, with defenders also getting involved.
“The Hoops have strength in depth in all positions. The only player you would say is guaranteed to start every game is Odsonne Edouard, but Lenny has options all over the rest of the pitch.”
He is bang on the money here – remember the tedious nature of Celtic’s performances over the last 18 months. Some games became an absolute chore to watch and when Rodgers jumped ship and Neil just continued Brendan’s wishes until May, the trophies came but Celtic fans developed more than a few grey hairs.
Look at games like St Johnstone at the start of the season, Ross County and Aberdeen – the level of performance as well as the results have been there. But for a two game blip – Celtic have been flying and Neil Lennon deserves all the credit.
