Former Celtic player and Sky Sports man Davie Provan believes Celtic will be working on Neil Lennon’s severance package over the next few days.
The co-commentator is adamant no Celtic manager can survive the capitulation we’ve seen this term. While he has sympathy for the manager, he’s seen others fall for less in the past.
Writing in his SunSport column, Provan said: “IF I thought Neil Lennon was the man for Celtic when Brendan Rodgers walked two years ago, it’s impossible to make a case for him now.
“He has been around the block often enough to know it’s over for him at Parkhead.
“Three days into the New Year, Celts are out of the Champions League, Europa League, Betfred cup and title race.
“No Hoops manager survives that type of failure.
“The streetfighter in him refused to concede the title, but his next fixture will be with Peter Lawwell to agree a severance package.
“Lennon will deserve every penny. He accepted a no-win situation by replacing Rodgers and got the job done.”
The Celtic manager has flown out to Dubai with the rest of the squad this week and doesn’t look like a man who fears the axe.
The board said Celtic would review the situation in January, we’re now in January and nineteen points behind in the league.
Realistically, the Scottish cup is our only chance at silverware this season. Will the manager be kept on until the end of the season? Or will, as Provan stipulates, Celtic give the manager a package to leave sooner?
Celtic’s next game is on Monday next week against Hibs. Will anything have changed by then?
