Celtic’s Matt O’Riley was surprisingly left out of the Denmark squad for the upcoming European Championships in Germany.
Despite notching 37 goal contributions in all competitions for the double-winners in the season gone by, the 23-year-old was snubbed by his international boss Kasper Hjulmand, the gaffer citing O’Riley’s lack of versatility as a key reason as to why he wasn’t picked.

Fans of the Danish national team were left fuming with Hjulmand’s decision, several taking to social media yesterday to outline their thoughts surrounding the situation.
Many reckon the 52-year-old has got it wrong, but there is still time for him to make the right decision, according to Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas.
He claims that Hjulmand can yet change his mind and that O’Riley is training and on standby, ready to heed the call, should he receive one in retrospect:
Absolutely astonished Matt O’Riley is not in the Denmark squad. Hjulmand should have been braver and picked him – arguably most in-form CM they have, certainly out of those playing in UK. He can still make right decision. He’s on standby and been training.

O’Riley fully deserves to be on the plane to the Euros and join his Celtic teammates Greg Taylor, Anthony Ralston, Callum McGregor, and James Forrest in Germany.
Unless Hjulmand experiences a change of heart or injuries come into play, though, it looks like the former MK Dons man will be staying put over the summer.
