Sky Pundit Pinpoints Where Celtic Must Improve Next Season

ANDY WALKER believes that Celtic must better their recent European form and improve while playing in Europe’s top-flight.

Last season, despite earning nine points in their Europa League group, the Hoops dropped down to the conference league, before falling out after a disastrous home defeat to Bodo/Glimt. The tie was over after the first leg, and Ange rotated the squad for the match in the Arctic Circle.

Furthermore, Celtic haven’t won a knockout tie since 2004, an embarrassing record that Ange Postecoglou will look to put to bed soon.

Speaking live on Sky Sports, Andy Walker stated that Celtic must improve on this next season, and use the safety net of the Europa League, saying;

“Winning the title was a huge boost for everyone but you see what Rangers have done on the European stage. I think Celtic’s European results have been really poor.

“Clearly, that’s where they want to improve. It’s very difficult at Champions League level but if it doesn’t go well you can drop into the Europa League.

“So Celtic on the European stage need to improve. That’s fair enough. That’s a good target for everyone to try and achieve.”

Ange will aim to get out of the group, and until it’s drawn it’s impossible to determine how realistic that is. With some more smart recruitment, Celtic could be in with a chance.

However, third place will allow Celtic to enter the Europa League. No matter the group, Celtic should be aiming for this at the very minimum.
