Former Aberdeen and Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was in attendance at Celtic Park this afternoon to watch his former side take on Celtic.
Ferguson, who managed Aberdeen from 1978 until 1986 in a successful spell that included three league titles, the European Cup Winners’ Cup, and the European Super Cup, remains the last manager outside of Celtic and Rangers to win the league title in Scotland and the last manager to beat Real Madrid in a European Cup final in 1983.
For Ferguson to be in attendance for today’s game highlights just how well Jimmy Thelin has done with the Dons, as the Scotsman is clearly impressed by what he has seen from Thelin since he took over as manager in the summer.

— Aberdeen FC (@AberdeenFC) October 19, 2024Ferguson will have mixed memories of Celtic Park, having famously lost to Celtic in a Champions League Group Stage match in 2006 with Manchester United, as Shunsuke Nakamura grabbed the winner and Louis Saha missed a penalty for United.
The Scotsman will undeniably go down as one of the greatest managers in football history, having taken great inspiration from legendary Celtic boss Jock Stein, who played a significant role in Ferguson’s development as a coach.
