Sinisalo Reflects on Composed Derby Display as he Makes “Foreseeable” Wish

Viljami Sinisalo has reflected on his Glasgow derby debut after impressing between the sticks during Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Ibrox, with the young keeper continuing to make the most of his unexpected opportunity.

The 23-year-old Finland international put in a composed performance under intense pressure, producing key saves, including a vital stop to deny Nicolas Raskin late on, and dealing well with Rangers’ barrage of set-pieces and long balls throughout the match.

Speaking after the game, Sinisalo underlined the different demands each match can bring, and the importance of adapting to the occasion.

“Of course. Listen, as a Celtic keeper, you want to play well every single game. Different games require different things,” he said as quoted by Daily Record.

“Games like Sunday, you’ve got to be calm and be able to make saves when they come. There are different games where you’ve got to be really clean with your passing, and there might not be as many saves. Every game is a bit different.

“I’m just trying to do my best to show that I can do the different sides of that. Hopefully, I can keep doing that for the foreseeable.”

Since stepping in for the injured Kasper Schmeichel, Sinisalo has quietly built a case for long-term inclusion, showing not just technical ability but temperament and presence as well. His performance at Ibrox was a standout, especially considering the magnitude of the occasion and the hostile environment.

Brendan Rodgers has also praised Sinisalo’s maturity and authority, suggesting the young stopper has exceeded expectations during a critical part of the season. With Schmeichel still on the mend, Sinisalo looks set to retain the gloves for now and his form suggests Celtic are in safe hands heading into the final stretch of the season, where the Fin will hope to get his gloves on a treble.
