Siegrist Relishing Chance to Play Angeball

CELTIC announced that Benjamin Siegrist would be the second signing of the summer window, following Cameron Carter-Vickers’ arrival.

The Swiss keeper had left Dundee United after his contract had expired, with Celtic picking him up on a free.

Ben is a top-quality goalkeeper, who could walk straight into any team in the country. Having him at Celtic gives the squad a big boost.

At Dundee United, where the goalie spent four years, he didn’t play the same style of football that Ange Postecoglou plays. The Greek-Aussie manager requires his goalkeepers to be comfortable with the ball at his feet, even when under pressure.

During Wednesday’s fan media press conference, which CeltsAreHere attended, Ben talked about adapting to the new style of play, confidently saying;

“I always try to get the ball to the best players as quickly as possible. Releasing the ball early to start a counterattack, it’s certainly going to be good; I look forward to it.

“We need to ball with our front players so we can score as quickly as we can.”

Celtic’s new signing continued;

“I’ll definitely be working on it because we’re going to be doing repetitions every week. I look forward to doing it. Obviously I was in a position where I wasn’t necessarily asked to do the same as Joe was asked to do last season.

“But it will be like riding a bycicle and getting use to it quite quickly.”

Where Does This Leave Scott Bain?

With Ben Siegrist arriving at Celtic, Scott Bain will fall further down the pecking order. The goalie was the backup last year but now faces an uncertain future. While it’s unlikely he’ll depart this summer, with Barkas already shipped off on loan.

Tobi Oluwayemi is also in a difficult position, the young keeper will be hoping to make his breakthrough in the coming seasons, but with two top-quality goalkeepers at the club, this could be challenging for him.
