Celtic announced the signing of Ben Siegrist to challenge Joe Hart between the sticks. Signing on a free after his contract expired at Dundee United in the summer.
He’s a quality keeper, making the piece of business even better.
He won’t initially take over from Joe Hart, but the potential for him to do so is there. If he works hard on the training pitch and shows his class Ange won’t hesitate to throw him in.
He’s using the trip to Austria to build relationships with his teammates ahead of the new season. He told Celtic’s website;
“I think you’ve got to get to know everyone and try to speak with every player by having dinner or lunch with them all.
“I like to sit and chat to everyone and have jokes off the pitch, but when it’s time to work, then it’s time to work.
“want the boys and the coaches to have trust in me, and those little conversations can make the difference.
“You spend a lot of time together when you’re here, so it’s important for both football and social reasons.
“I haven’t been away with my previous clubs a lot so I guess I’m trying to make the most of it and speak to as many boys as I can and they’re making an effort with me as well.”
Part of being a goalie is building trust with your teammates. Having not had the chance to do this on the pitch yet, Ben is deciding to do it off the pitch.
Celtic Set for Interesting Battle
It’ll be interesting to see who finishes the season as Ange’s number 1. Both keepers are quality, in fact, Celtic has the best two goalkeepers in the league.
Joe Hart hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down, but if Siegrists proves to be a better starting option, he’ll get the nod from the manager.
