Shaun Maloney Takes Up Belgium Role

It has been announced this morning that Shaun Maloney is to become part of Roberto Martinez backroom team for Belgium.

In a move that nobody seen coming, the former Celtic midfielder and current developmental coach has been handed a massive opportunity to work with some top players and be in the same coaching team as Thierry Henry.

It remains to be seen if Maloney will stick with his day to day responsibilities at Celtic or this job is a full tome position.

The player retired over a year ago to concentrate on his coaching – rejecting an offer from Aberdeen at the time.

Martinez and the Scot have been close since their Wigan days and the Belgium boss is now looking to utilise Shaun’s coaching talents.

Belgium came third in this year’s World Cup and have a lot of momentum as they get prepared for Euro qualifiers.

Could Maloney be part of a Euro winning side?
