Shamrock Rovers Boss’ Top Praise for Kenny Ahead of Celtic Chance

Shamrock Rovers manager Stephen Bradley has hailed the progress of Johnny Kenny as the young striker continues to impress during his loan spell.

Bradley, who has been instrumental in Kenny’s development, shared his thoughts on the 21-year-old’s future and hinted at what lies ahead as Celtic prepare to bring the prolific forward back to Parkhead.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, Bradley expressed pride in Kenny’s performances and acknowledged the ongoing discussions surrounding the player’s next step:

“It means Johnny has done well. That’s good, that’s healthy. We’re helping him do well.

“What the future will be, will be. I’m having discussions all the time myself with Johnny, I’m quite clear where he is. We just have to enjoy what he’s doing this year, we’ve seen real maturity and someone grow before your eyes, it’s a pleasure to watch. There’s so much more to come from him.

“I think he can be a really top player, there’s still loads to come. Hopefully we’re the ones to help him get there. There will be changes, players will leave, players will come in.”

Kenny’s performances for Shamrock Rovers have been nothing short of outstanding. With 23 goals across all competitions, he has proven his eye for goal and composure under pressure. His exploits in the Europa Conference League have been particularly impressive, where he currently shares the top scorer spot alongside Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku and Afimico Pululu.

A standout moment came in Rovers’ historic 3-0 victory over Borac Banja Luka, where Kenny bagged a brace, including a delightful dinked finish for his second goal. His ability to deliver in crucial European fixtures has not only helped Shamrock Rovers progress but has also caught the attention of Celtic’s decision-makers.

Celtic’s need for a young third striker is well-documented. With Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah as the primary options up front, Rodgers is eager to add depth and versatility to his attacking line. Kenny’s loan spell has provided him with the confidence and experience needed to potentially fill that role.

Rodgers appears ready to give the young Irishman a chance to prove himself, especially given Kenny’s form and ability to adapt to different challenges. The Celtic boss has shown faith in young talent before, and Kenny’s development aligns perfectly with the club’s strategy of integrating promising players into the first team.

With Kenny’s loan spell set to conclude in January, Celtic are likely to take a closer look. His performances in training and ability to adapt to the higher intensity of Scottish football will be crucial in determining his role at Parkhead. The striker himself is aware of the challenge ahead, and knows he has still to reach the next level to be a player for Celtic.
