SFA Appoint Referee For Glasgow Derby Who Rodgers Publicly Criticised

The SFA have just announced who will take charge of Sunday’s pivotal Glasgow derby at Ibrox.

In the middle on the pitch will be John Beaton, the man whom Brendan Rodgers widely criticised for his incompetence on VAR duties in the Hoops’ more than controversial 2-0 loss to Hearts earlier in the season.

Running the lines in Govan will be Daniel McFarlane and Dougie Potter while Willie Collum has been handed fourth official duties.

Nick Walsh, who took charge of the last derby, will sit in the VAR room for this one, assisted by Frank Connor.

In their appointment of Beaton as whistle-blower this weekend, the SFA have made a bold move. Rodgers’ public criticism of the 42-year-old ended with him in the stands at Livingston at the weekend, and one wonders whether the Hoops boss’ prior words will play on the referee’s mind.

We will find out come Sunday when the game kicks off at midday. It is live on Sky Sports.
