Season May Be ‘Lost’ Claims UEFA President

The UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has delivered a warning to all leagues that this season could be “lost” if football does not restart by the end of June.

All the professional leagues in Europe are on lockdown as a result of the coronavirus crisis. Across the globe, all major sports are on ice as the pandemic tightens its grip with each passing day.

The governing body of European football has had to set up a task force to draft up possibilities to finish off league seasons across Europe. Ceferin cannot assure any association how long the current suspensions will last as nobody can predict how long COVID-19 will last for. Italy is the worse hit country with deaths so far and all the graphs are heading in an unwanted direction across the globe.

Speaking with an Italian newspaper, La Repubblica, Ceferin said:

“Nobody knows when the pandemic will end. We have a plan A, B or C: to restart in May, in June or at the end of June.

“If then we wouldn’t be able to do any of these, the season would probably be lost. There is also the possibility of ending this season at the start of the next, which would then be postponed, starting a little later.

Football will be the least of a lot of peoples worries and with clubs like Barcelona, Juventus & Bayern Munich already cutting players wages for up to four months it looks like everything will be on lockdown until at least June.
