The SFA appears determined to finish last season’s Scottish Cup Final after the season was curtailed due to the pandemic. We have been keeping a close eye on developments when it comes to the semi-final of the competition. Celtic, Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibernian are all still in with a shout of lifting the silverware.
There has been an acceptance the SFA want to hold back as long as possible on playing the games to give supporters the best chance of filling out Hampden for the semi-finals and final.
The Scotsman is reporting today the rescheduled fixtures and when they take place all hinge on the arbitration going on between Hearts and the SPFL.
The paper claims if Hearts lose their appeal against relegation the fixtures will not go ahead until November time. If the Jambos win and can stay in the Premier League then the games can take place earlier in the season.
The reason is that Hearts wouldn’t be scheduled to start playing football until October if they’re in the Championship which would put them at a disadvantage to the other three sides who kick-off in August.
There’s only so long the SFA can put this off without either shelving it or jut going ahead without crowds. Celtic are chasing another treble and could find themselves in a scenario where they lift TWO Scottish Cups in the one season.
