Scott McKenna to Celtic Update

Further reports this week claim Celtic are still keen on Nottingham Forests Scott McKenna. On Thursday evening TalkSPORT senior football journalist Alex Crook took to social media to claim both Celtic and Rangers are both interested.

Sources from PLZ Soccer indicated earlier this week that the Scottish Champions have made tentative inquiries about the player, highlighting their intent to strengthen their squad. McKenna, a solid fixture in Scotland’s national team, made his move to Nottingham Forest from Aberdeen in 2020 for a fee around £3 million.

Despite a promising start, the 26-year-old has recently struggled to secure regular playing time, featuring only five times this season. This lack of game time could be a driving factor behind the potential move.

Now, this isn’t the first time Celtic has had eyes for McKenna; they were keen on him back when he was with Aberdeen.

But now, with the winds changing at Parkhead and a few defenders like Gustaf Lagerbielke and Yuki Kobayashi possibly packing up, plus Nat Phillips’ loan wrapping up, Celtic’s back line could use some fresh legs.

Though with Scales, CCV, Nawrocki, and Welsh already in the mix, the real question is if there’s enough room for another. Brendan Rodgers has even mentioned giving Nawrocki more field time in the coming season. So, this interest might have sparked before some recent decisions.

McKenna’s experience in both the Scottish Premiership and the English Championship could provide a robust and seasoned addition to the squad and give Celtic another Scottish national for their European quota.
