Scott Brown Set For Managerial Bow

The former Celtic captain will take charge of his first game as manager when his Fleetwood side take on Port Vale away from home this Saturday.

Preparations have been coming along well for the Celtic legend with his teams final pre-season fixture culminating in a 2-1 victory over Dundee United.

Celtic fans will be keen to see how Brown’s managerial career progresses as his journey in the dugout begins this weekend.

He announced that he was retiring from the game in May and was very sharply announced as the new boss of Fleetwood Town.

Pre-season will have been a good exercise for Brown to understand and get a look at his squad but much like Ange Postecoglou is now ready for the ‘real’ stuff to come.

“It’s been good. It’s different because, obviously, I retired and then got this job two days later,” said Brown speaking to the Glasgow Times.

“It’s a big change for me but everyone has helped me out. The chairman (Andy Pilley) has given me a lot of time, help and understanding to come into a huge football club like this.

“League One is a fantastic league. I can’t wait for the competitive stuff to start, you miss that.

“But already before the games, I’ve enjoyed the preparation and been looking forward to seeing what we’ve worked on all week.”

There will be a familiar face playing under Brown at Fleetwood with former St Johnstone defender Shaun Rooney making the switch south to join up with the 37-year old.

Brown has added a lot of new additions to the Fleetwood squad who will be hoping to have a much better season having finished 20th of 24th last season – just missing out on relegation.

“I felt the understanding in the team was brilliant. That’s the way we want to press, the way we want to play.

“There’s always going to be mistakes, there’s always going to be people giving the ball away.

“But it’s about reactions and how they get the ball back. The attitude was incredible.

“I believe this club should be doing a lot better than what we did last season. That’s my job now. To make sure that happens.”

This could be the beginning of a long career in football management and will definitely be a score many Celtic fans will be checking come five o’clock on Saturday.
