Scott Brown Replacement

With Scott Brown set to leave the club in the summer and join Aberdeen, the club will be losing a starting midfielder this season and captain of the side.

So, someone will need to replace Brown in that position going forward and pundit Peter Martin believes that man could be Lewis Ferguson.

Speaking on PLZ Soccer, Martin believes Ferguson would be a good replacement for the 35-year old as a replacement from within Scotland.

“They made a blunder in not getting John McGinn. But if I was looking at the recruitment of the best of somebody in Scotland that I thought could come in and do a really good job, can mix it up a bit, I would go out and get Lewis Ferguson.

“I’ve been consistent about that for the last year. I don’t care about some people who don’t like the fact that his two family members played for Rangers. I’d go out and get him. He’s the kind of player I like, just a wee bit about him.”

Ferguson has been a consistent performer in the Dons side for a few seasons now since joining from Hamilton Accies in 2018.

Of course, there is a lot of talk about the Scotland under-21 international family members with his uncle being former Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson. When it comes to things like that, it shouldn’t matter though, all that should matter is his footballing ability.

It will be interesting to see if the club is linked with a move in the next few months, with the size of the rebuild we have on our hands. Who knows, maybe Brown’s move up north could give the club a slight upper hand.
