Scotland begin their Euro campaign on Monday afternoon against the Czech Republic. A whole country is buzzing to get going, one man who is savouring the qualification success is Scott Brown.
The Celtic legend missed out on a major tournament with his country but is ecstatic the lads are there.
The former Hoops captain recalled the dark days in a Scotland jersey when the squad were gutted to see Gordon Strachan get the sack.
Brown talks about how the former Celtic manager who signed him for Celtic was building something special before the rug was pulled from under him.
It’s why, no matter what happens in these Euros, he believes Steve Clarke must be the man to continue to take Scotland forward and allow for that continuity Scotland have craved.
Speaking to RecordSport, Scott said:
“In my time as a Scotland player I felt we were building something special under Gordon Strachan and then the manager was sacked. When that decision was taken I just watched everything – the whole team – slowly falling apart.
“That’s why Clarke has to stay in the job for the long term. He needs time to grow this team and get it ready for the next big tournament. It would be a huge mistake not to let that happen.”
Broony will be watching from afar as he gets prepared to step into Pittodrie and help Stephen Glass capture the imagination of the supporters.
When the fixtures comes out for next season, one of the big dates on the calendar Celtic fans will be looking for is when Scott will come up against Celtic for the first time in 14 years.
