It was seven years ago today a Celtic team with their backs against the wall managed to preserve their Scottish Cup status against Rangers Oldco in the most spectacular of fashions.
Having gone behind twice in the game and had Fraser Forster sent off, it was looking bleak for Celtic as they looked to be heading out the Scottish Cup at the hands of their Glasgow neighbours.
That was until Scott Brown took matters into his own hands. The Celtic captain took the bull by the horns when he took the ball at the edge of the are and tucked it past Alan McGregor to make it 2-2 on the day.
Having had the mouthy El Hadj Diouf in his ear all afternoon, there was a touch of serendipity when the ball nestled into the back of the net the player was right next to brown, who raised his arms in the air in an act of defiance and celebration – The Broony was born.
In the end it was the home side who were happy to hear the final whistle with ten men Celtic running rampant.
Celtic would win the subsequent replay 1-0 in a fiery encounter at Celtic Park. That match is known for Rangers players behaving like absolute thugs with Neil Lennon taking exception to Ally McCoist’s post-match whisper.
The club went onto lift the Scottish Cup in 2011.
The player himself took to social media to mark the anniversary.
