This means Scott Brown, who was heavily linked to the job, looks set to remain in Aberdeen with Jim Goodwin.
Currently a player/coach, we are still awaiting confirmation that the former Celtic captain will continue this role. Goodwin, the former St Mirren boss, made the Granite City switch before his teams match against Motherwell on Saturday.
His new manager confirmed that Brown missed the 1-1 draw against the Steelmen due to injury. However, Goodwin announced he was keen for the Aberdeen captain to remain in the northeast until at least the end of the season.
Steven Naismith was also in contention for the job after it was revealed Jack Ross turned down the opportunity to take over his former club.
There will no doubt be other opportunities for Scott further down the line. This job has come too soon for the player, who can still offer something on the park.
