Scott Brown has left Aberdeen with immediate effect less than a year into his Dons deal, the club has confirmed.

New Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin had no intention of utilising Scott as a player or coach going into the final stretch of games and next season.

The Celtic legend signed a two-year deal with Aberdeen and was expected to stay at the club for the duration – taking more of a coaching role on in his second season.

The sacking of Stephen Glass was the beginning of the end for Broony at Aberdeen. Jim Goodwin claimed his Ibrox snub was injury related at the weekend. We questioned Jim’s take on Monday afternoon and have proven to be correct.

Scott has not confirmed if he will retire now or look to play elsewhere next season. Aberdeen can’t officially release his player registration until the summer so he can’t play for anyone else this season.

There will now be a clamour for the former Celtic captain to be brought back to Parkhead in a coaching capacity.
