Scott Brown Reveals Brendan Rodgers Phone Calls

Former Celtic captain Scott Brown has revealed how he reached out to three former Celtic managers to help inspire Fleetwood Town’s terrific cup run.

The EFL League One side booked their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup after they surprisingly knocked out Sheffield Wednesday in a replay.

Fleetwood will take on Championship leaders Burnley at Turf Moor at the beginning of March and will look to make even further progress as the former Hoops captain became the first manager of the Lancashire club to lead them to the last 16 of the tournament.

Brown’s side have since turned their results around in the league after winning against Charlton Athletic and Peterborough which has created spaced between themselves and the relegation zone.

He has enlisted the help of Gordon Strachan, Neil Lennon and Brendan Rodgers to try and make even more history in the cup as his former gaffers give him advice in his first managerial job.

The 37-year-old also revealed that it was the arrival of Brendan Rodgers at Parkhead in the summer of 2016 which convinced him that a career in management was the right path for him after hanging up his boots.

“I was going to last at Celtic for as long as I possibly could when he was there because I knew somewhere down the line, I’m going to pick his brains, I’m going to phone him up and ask him for help. And I’ve done that,” said Brown as quoted by the [Daily Record].

“It’s my first job and I’m not ashamed to ask for it. I’ve spoken to Lenny and I’ve spoken to Gordon and I’ve spoken to Brendan because it’s a big step for me, going from playing football straight into management. I’ve picked Brendan’s brains a lot.

“I’m always chatting to Lenny as well and I’ve spoken to Gordon as well. It’s small things they might help me with. Things I maybe don’t see or maybe don’t think of.

“I have a good coaching staff here too, all looking at things from a different angle. I’m not always going to say I’m right but at the end of the day I have the last decision.”

It’s a new look Broony in the dugout as many Hoops fans are used to seeing him with his shaved head but that is something he wanted to put to one side before moving into management.

“It’s a fresh start and I don’t think in my first job I wanted to go in with a skinhead, losing the plot with a lot of English lads and them looking at me going, ‘What are you doing?’.”
