Celtic legend Scott Brown believes Greg Taylor might be ready for a fresh challenge, as the left-back’s future at Parkhead remains unresolved heading into the final weeks of his contract.

Speaking during the BBC‘s Scottish Cup final coverage, Brown praised Taylor’s qualities and acknowledged his contribution to the club during a successful period—but hinted the time may be right for a change.
“He [Taylor] has played in all the big games.
“He is technically very, very good. What Brendan likes as well, he can be that inverted one as well. He goes in the middle of the park, so nice on the eye as well.
“Everybody always questions his defensive ability. They always talk about the Champions League. Kieran is coming back. Everybody knows that. He is an unbelievable player.
“Maybe it’s time for Greg to go and try something else. Celtic fans would still love to have him here about competing against Kieran as well.”
Taylor’s deal is due to expire shortly, and with no new contract yet agreed, questions continue to swirl over his next move. Brendan Rodgers admitted last week that the door hadn’t closed on an extension, but the arrival of Kieran Tierney this summer only increases the uncertainty.
Greg Taylor won’t want to be a backup, and will be keen to get a move to somewhere he can play regularly.
Taylor has been a regular under Rodgers and Ange Postecoglou, amassing over 150 appearances since joining from Kilmarnock in 2019. He’s been a key figure in the club’s domestic dominance but has often come under scrutiny in Europe.
Brown, now managing Ayr United and reportedly in the running for the Dundee job, spoke with the authority of someone who knows what it takes to thrive at Celtic—but also when it might be time to move on. Whether Taylor stays to fight for his place or seeks a new challenge remains one of the key decisions ahead of the new season.
