Scott Brown Hilariously Trolls Kris Boyd

Scott Brown wasted no time delivering a hilarious swipe at Kris Boyd during Sky Sports’ coverage of Celtic’s Premiership opener on Sunday.

The Hoops legend was alongside the former Rangers striker in the studio at Parkhead for the champions’ first competitive match of the new season.

Celtic went on to claim a 1-0 victory over St Mirren thanks to a late winner from Luke McCowan. But before the action got underway, attention was on the pre-match ceremony as club icon Paul McStay unfurled the league flag in front of a packed Celtic Park.

Brown, who captained Celtic through countless title wins, was asked by the broadcaster about his own memories of flag day. With Boyd sitting just a few feet away, the former skipper couldn’t resist slipping in a pointed reminder of the striker’s barren record in the fixture.

The exchange set the tone for a lively afternoon in the studio, with Brown clearly enjoying the opportunity to get one over on his old rival in front of the cameras.

He said: (Sky Sports), “It’s amazing because you know all that hard work from the season before has to start all over again.

“It’s one of those days, it’s great for the fans, it’s great for everyone to come together.

“Boydy’s not used to this, obviously in a long, long time.

“He’s delighted to be here. We’ve had a real good chat about how good this place is and how much it means to you, haven’t we?”

The comments got a laugh from those in the studio, with Boyd not taking the dig well. The two have often traded digs in public, but Brown’s knack for doing it with a smile has always been part of his appeal.

Celtic’s victory was the perfect start to their title defence, and Brown’s quip brought a bit of humour to the day’s broadcast. With the flag raised again over Paradise, the ex-captain was clearly enjoying being back in familiar territory.

For Boyd, it was another reminder of how strong Celtic have been in recent years, and Brown made sure to point it out on live TV. The new Premiership campaign might only be starting, but Brown’s bite is still as sharp as ever.
