Former Celtic midfielder Scott Allan has responded to the suggestion that Luke McCowan could be the club’s next captain.
It comes after a series of admirable cameos in which the central midfielder has brought increased energy and desire to the Hoops’ play.
A boyhood Celtic fan, McCowan loves the club and gives his all in green and white.

Although he is somewhat of a late bloomer, McCowan remains just 26 years old and still has room for improvement.
The ex-Dundee man penned a three-year deal at Parkhead in the summer and has already taken to life in Glasgow like a duck to water.
Because he supported the Hoops growing up, fans have an extra adoration for McCowan.
Indeed, on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard last Friday night, one supporter suggested that McCowan could be the next club captain, following in Callum McGregor’s footsteps.
Allan, who had a far from impressive spell at Parkhead, responded to said claim.
“I think we’re obviously looking a long way down the line,” he said.
“What I would say is I think the impact that he has made from the bench has been excellent considering how strong a midfield Celtic have at the moment.
“And then when he does get that chance from the start, is he going to keep his shirt? Ultimately, he needs to be better than Hatate, Engels and at some point, Bernardo, and that’s really difficult.
“Those guys, the player trading model Celtic have, they’re looking to move those guys on maybe a year, two years from now for a hefty fee.
“And he might be just one of the players with a bit of longevity that when they do move on, he might come in and fill one of the slots and really take the bull by the horns.”
McCowan Must Remain Patient
In pursuit of a starting Celtic chance, McCowan must bide his time.
The midfielder has several international-class players in front of him in the pecking order, but when he has played, he has more than proved he can compete with the likes of Engels, Hatate, and Bernardo for a starting jersey.
With Celtic about to embark on an arduous run of seven games in the space of 21 days, McCowan will undoubtedly get opportunities which he will look to grasp with both hands.
