Schmeichel Spotted with Ex-Rangers Striker Ahead of Ibrox Trip

Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has been seen out in Glasgow in the build-up to this weekend’s derby clash at Ibrox.

The 38-year-old was photographed alongside former Rangers striker Peter Løvenkrands during a visit to La Lanterna on Great Western Road in the city’s West End on Thursday, August 28.

The sighting has caused plenty of chatter online, with the two Danish footballing figures catching up just days before Celtic travel across the city.

Schmeichel, who joined Celtic in 2024, has already become an important figure in Brendan Rodgers’ squad. His wealth of experience from spells at Leicester City, Nice, and Anderlecht has helped to steady the defence, and his leadership qualities have stood out since his arrival.

Having already featured in the Glasgow derby, Schmeichel knows exactly what to expect from the intensity of the occasion and will once again be a key presence as Celtic look to take a result at Ibrox.

Løvenkrands, meanwhile, remains a familiar name to Rangers fans after his successful spell at Ibrox in the early 2000s, where he scored a number of goals.

His meeting with Schmeichel was a reunion of two well-known Danish internationals who enjoyed long careers across European football.

The timing, however, with Celtic preparing for such a vital fixture, ensured the picture quickly spread among supporters.

For Schmeichel, focus will now turn fully to Sunday’s game. Celtic head to Ibrox looking to maintain momentum after a busy week of transfer activity, and the veteran goalkeeper’s influence at the back could prove decisive.

With the pressure of an Ibrox crowd and Rangers pushing to make home advantage count, Rodgers will be relying on his experienced No.1 to stand firm.
