Celtic fans are delighted with the news today that Ryan Christie will be sticking around beyond this season.
The little midfielder has grabbed his chance with both hands since coming on in the second half of the League Cup semi-final against Hearts last month.
Christie came on that day and changed the game, and has stayed in the team since. Scoring in three consecutive games as well as setting up the winner in Celtic’s massive win against Leipzig.
There were many fans who thought Christie’s time at Celtic could be coming to an end before his emergence from the Parkhead shadows.
After spending 18-months away at Aberdeen, the player came in and looked to be right down the pecking order.
With Celtic’s injury list going the player got an unlikely chance to shine and did just that.
Rodgers spoke a few weeks back about contract talks between the club and Christie’s representatives and was confident a deal would be done.
The Irishman will be delighted he has Ryan for another three years at least.
But not as delighted as the player himself! Speaking to Celtic TV, the 23-year-old couldn’t hide his excitement at committing his future to Celtic:
“I’ve started playing a little bit more, getting into the team and starting to make an impact.
“I think Celtic is the main club in my head that I want to continue playing for.
“It’s a delight for me to sign and keep playing for Celtic.
“It’s been good, I really enjoyed coming in and I’ve taken a lot of confidence from it. It’s probably helped my game.
“I’m looking to improve and there’s plenty more to come.
“The manager has been brilliant with me, I’ve really enjoyed playing under him. The backroom staff have been brilliant too.
“I’ve got a real positive feeling right now, I’m enjoying my football and there was no reason for that to change.”
