Celtic’s young talent Rocco Vata, currently in contract talks as his deal approaches expiration, has been learning valuable lessons about professionalism and discipline under manager Brendan Rodgers.
His father, Rudi Vata, shared insights into Rocco’s development journey, particularly a challenging episode during Celtic’s pre-season tour in Japan last July.
Rodgers had to address issues related to Rocco being late for team meetings, leading to a stint with the B team.
Rocco’s response to these challenges has been positive. He has displayed a commitment to self-improvement and responsibility, both on and off the pitch.
“The manager had an issue because he was late for meetings a couple of times,” Rudi told SunSport.
“Of course discipline is important and the manager was right. That’s why he went to the B team.
“Rocco knows he has to be more responsible. But he’s a young boy and they were small problems.
“I’ve told him that hard times produce strong men. He’s had tough times and it’s about him learning from them and I believe he has.
“There isn’t a human being on earth who hasn’t made a mistake.
“He’s a good boy. After training he has a sleep, then goes to the gym in the evening.
“Even on Monday after the cup game against Buckie he had a day off but he still went to the gym.
“He doesn’t drink alcohol or go to pubs or nightclubs.
“He’s much physically stronger now than he was six months ago.”
Rocco’s recent performance, including a goal in the senior team against Buckie Thistle, seems to be a testament to his growing maturity and determination to prove himself. This development is especially crucial as Celtic negotiates his future amidst interest from Italian clubs Como and Bologna.
Rocco Vata’s future will be ironed out in the coming weeks and months, one way or another.
