Ross Doohan is back at Celtic after signing a three-year contract with the club. The goalkeeper, who grew up at Celtic and spent over ten years in the youth system, returns from Aberdeen to take the place of Scott Bain, who has moved on to Falkirk.
Doohan didn’t play a senior game during his first spell at Celtic but gained plenty of experience elsewhere. Over the past few years, he’s had spells at clubs like Ayr United, Ross County, Dundee United, Tranmere Rovers, Forest Green Rovers and Aberdeen.

Back at Celtic, Doohan knows he has a challenge ahead. The club already has Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo, but he believes in himself and is ready to fight for a place.
He’s also happy to work again with Stevie Woods, Celtic’s long-time goalkeeping coach and says he isn’t just here to sit on the bench.
He said: (Celtic FC YouTube), “I feel I’ve matured a lot, both on and off the pitch. I’ve got a lot more experience, and I feel my all-around game has gotten better. I’m looking forward to getting in, working hard, and showing everyone that.
“There are two top goalkeepers at the club already, and I’m buzzing to be working with them and with Woodsy again, who’s a top goalkeeper coach. I’m just looking to work hard, put my face out there, and push myself into the team.
“I back myself. I know I’ve got the foot in the door now, so I need to go to training, work as hard as I can, and show everyone what I can do. They haven’t seen me in training for a few years since I left, so I need to show them what I’m like now.
“Now it’s time to focus on Celtic, get my foot in the door, work hard, and hopefully get some game time here. The Scotland thing will come next—we’ll see what happens.”
Doohan’s return gives Celtic more cover in goal, which could be useful with European football ahead. His return also helps the club with UEFA rules that require a number of homegrown players.
Brendan Rodgers is pleased to have Doohan back. The Irishman has seen how he’s grown and feels he can now bring something useful to the team. Rodgers sees him as someone who can push the other goalkeepers and raise the level in training.

Doohan’s attitude is clear, he wants to make an impact and isn’t just happy to be back. After years away improving his game, he’s come home ready to prove himself.
Celtic now have three experienced goalkeepers in the squad. Doohan knows it won’t be easy, but his focus is simple: train hard, be ready, and take his chance when it comes. His journey shows what belief and hard work can do, and now he’s ready to show what he’s learned.
