Ross Doohan is reportedly set to return to Celtic after leaving Aberdeen. His contract with the Dons has expired following this season. The Dons confirmed his exit as part of their summer update this afternoon.
Doohan is to return to Celtic to be third-choice keeper. Kasper Schmeichel is the current number one, and Viljami Sinisalo remains second choice. Doohan adds depth and experience to the squad.

He came through Celtic’s academy before moving on to get first-team minutes elsewhere. He played for Ayr United and Tranmere Rovers before joining Aberdeen. Now he gets another chance at his boyhood club.
Aberdeen praised Doohan’s contribution during his time at Pittodrie, highlighting his performances when stepping in for their injured first-choice goalkeeper.
Aberdeen FC: “Ross Doohan joined the club in the summer of 2023, initially as an understudy to Kelle Roos, then latterly Dimitar Mitov.
“The former Celtic, Ayr United and Tranmere Rovers stopper was used sparingly in his first season, turning out against Bonnyrigg Rose in the Scottish Cup before an appearance against Livingston in the season finale at Pittodrie last May.
“However, he would play a much more active role in year two, admirably covering for the injured Mitov, featuring in 18 of the Dons’ 50 matches, and never letting anyone down.”

During his time at Celtic, Bain made 78 appearances and collected 11 major honours, including four Premiership titles, four League Cups, and three Scottish Cups.
His role had become more limited in recent seasons. With his contract now finished, Celtic have turned to Doohan to fill that space in the squad.
Doohan is not expected to play regularly but will be ready if called upon. He brings solid top-level experience and a strong attitude. Celtic now have a clear structure in goal, with three keepers ready to step in when needed. This move helps the team stay strong ahead of the new season.
