Ronny Deila Signs Former Celt for Coaching Staff Role

Ronny Deila has tonight added former Celtic midfielder Efraín Juárez to his New York City staff after bringing him from Vålerenga.

Ronny originally signed the Mexican for Vålerenga after a Chance meeting on holiday.

Speaking to Celtsarehere.com last year, Ronny confirmed it was their Celtic connection which got them talking.

“I was on vacation in Mexico, Cancun in December and I was in a shopping centre when a guy came over to me and asked if I was Ronny Deila and this guy was Efrain.

“He said he had played for Celtic and he knew me from my time as the Celtic manager

“We started to talk and we were together for a few days with families. His wife is from Belgium and she wanted to be closer to family and Efrain wanted a new adventure.

“I said we need a right back, he played a lot of his career at right back, so he came to the training camp and did good and after that, we agreed a one-year deal to sign him.

“We would never have met had it not been for our connection with Celtic”

The pair were never at Celtic at the same time but appear to have become friends because of that Celtic connection.

Ronny already has former Celtic player Gary Mackay-Steven in the ranks on the playing side of things.

The former Celtic boss won two titles on the way to the historic nine. If the bhoys managed to get to ten next season you would imagine the manager would come back for the celebrations.

Most Celtic fans have fond memories of the Norwegian who wore his heart in his sleeve while at the club. We wish him all the best in his American adventure and hope we do have cause to bring him over in 2021!
