“Top-Class Manager” – Celtic Captain Urges Club to Back and Keep Rodgers

Celtic captain Callum McGregor has made a heartfelt plea for Brendan Rodgers to remain at the club beyond this season, despite mounting frustrations following a disastrous Champions League exit.

The manager’s contract discussions were shelved when the new season began, and with recruitment lagging behind expectations, Rodgers has appeared increasingly agitated by the lack of movement in the transfer market.

The growing interest from Premier League side Nottingham Forest, should they part ways with Nuno Espirito Santo, only adds to the tension.

Yet McGregor is adamant that Rodgers is the right man to lead Celtic through the current storm and into a more successful period.

He said [SunSport]: “Listen, he’s a top-class manager and he wants to be in the top competitions.

“We’re lucky to have him and we want to keep him, of course.

“Hopefully we can get the business done that we need to get done to help the team.

“This has been a punch in the nose, but we have to get over it and make sure it’s still a good season for us.

“If we can get the help we need by getting the bodies in, then hopefully the team can fly from here.”

McGregor has also lamented the board, saying that the team need new bodies in.

There could be two added in the coming days. CeltsAreHere understands that Balikwisha travelled by Eurostar to London to complete his medical on Wednesday. Left-back Marcelo Saracchi is also thought to have had his medical in London and will travel to Glasgow to complete the formalities of his move.

Celtic will still look to make more moves in the transfer market, though. They’re still light in attack, even with Balikwisha’s addition.

In terms of outgoings, Yang and Idah are being eyes by EFL clubs.
