Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has expressed his concerns after the Hoops conceded three goals at Celtic Park this afternoon, in what was the third consecutive Glasgow Derby where the Bhoys have shipped three goals to Rangers.

A Worrying Pattern for Celtic
When asked about the recurring theme of conceding three goals in each of the last three derbies, Rodgers didn’t shy away from acknowledging the issue. He said: (The Celtic Way), “Yeah, that’s something to think about for sure,” the Irishman admitted. “I mentioned that afterwards. You need to be better. You need to be defensively much better, much more secure.”
For Rodgers, the defensive frailties that were exposed in today’s game are a concern, and rightly so. The Hoops were hoping to put on a dominant performance in the last Glasgow Derby of the season at Celtic Park. However, despite the anticipation and the home crowd behind them, that dream simply didn’t materialise.
Ball Retention and Defensive Security
Rodgers also highlighted how Celtic’s inability to retain possession contributed to their defensive problems. “I think also part of that comes from the ball,” he said. “If you give the ball away and you’re not dominating it like we do, you hand a little bit of onus in the opposition.”
The Celtic manager’s point is clear: when Celtic fail to keep hold of the ball, they surrender the initiative to their opponents, allowing Rangers to capitalise. This lack of control in midfield has been a recurring issue, particularly in Glasgow Derby games. When Celtic’s possession-based game falters, it leaves them vulnerable at the back.
Disappointing Goals
Rodgers made no secret of his disappointment regarding the goals conceded. “Ultimately, all three goals today were disappointing goals,” he remarked, clearly frustrated by the lack of defensive solidity on display. Celtic’s backline was caught out on several occasions, and the defensive lapses in concentration allowed Rangers to take full advantage.
As the team prepares for Hearts at home after the international break, Rodgers will be keen to address these issues in training. Defensive resilience will be key if Celtic are to regain their edge in the Scottish Premiership and go on to complete a domestic treble.

Looking Ahead
With the summer transfer window looming, supporters will be hoping that Brendan Rodgers can strengthen his squad in key areas, particularly in defence, to avoid another season of worrying defensive displays in derby matches. The road ahead will require more than just attacking flair; it will demand solid, reliable defending to complement the attacking talent that Celtic possess.
For now, though, the focus will shift to how the team reacts to this setback and whether they can tighten up defensively before facing Hearts.
