Rodgers Responds to Sack the Board Chants “Supporters Have Every Right”

Brendan Rodgers has addressed the vocal discontent from Celtic supporters during Wednesday night’s 0-0 draw with Kairat Almaty, saying he understands the frustration and the calls for better from the stands.

Chants of “sack the board” rang out at Celtic Park during the second half as fans made clear their anger at both the performance on the pitch and the club’s lack of urgency in the transfer market ahead of a critical Champions League qualifier.

Fans also made it clear that they wanted rid of CEO Michael Nicholson and Non-Executive Chairman Peter Lawwell through other chants.

Speaking on Friday, Rodgers offered a calm and measured response.

“I do understand where supporters are coming from,” he said on Celtic TV. “The supporters want the best team on the pitch as early as it possibly can be. They have every right to feel frustrated or air that when it’s possible.”

The frustration comes after a summer where transfer business has been slow, despite the need to replace key departures and strengthen the squad across multiple positions.

Celtic have been active behind the scenes but have so far fallen short of delivering the reinforcements fans and Rodgers were expecting.

Celtic should have replaced Kyogo in January, but after they didn’t, they had 6 months to scout for suitable replacements and work on deals, but as we sit here in the middle of August, nothing has happened on that front yet.

The talk early this year was that Kuhn was also eyeing a move, and with no replacement for him in yet either, Celtic are in a situation with three senior wingers to cover both wings.
