After Celtic’s frustrating 1-0 defeat to St Johnstone this afternoon, a visibly disappointed Brendan Rodgers took the opportunity to reflect on both Celtic’s performance and his own role in the result.
In his post-match interview, Rodgers opened up about the anger he felt following the loss, but emphasised the importance of self-reflection in moments of adversity.
However, Rodgers was also quick to highlight that his first point of call is always to look inwardly before pointing fingers elsewhere.

He said: (TCW), “There is definitely anger – I am just trying to control it.
“I look at my own self first and foremost. I’m proud of my career and how I teach players and how I inspire them, and how I motivate them.
“The first look, I look at myself. I ask myself, ‘Am I doing the very best job I possibly can to inspire and motivate these players to get over the line?’
“So that’s my first look. But I just think there’s a comfort there I don’t like, and it doesn’t matter if you’re 13 points or 3 points.
“It’s not enough. We have to be much better than what we were in our ambition in the game.”

Even with a commanding lead in the Scottish Premiership, there seems to be a lack of intensity and drive from some players, something the Irishman is not prepared to tolerate.
In the coming days, the question will be whether Rodgers can channel his anger into positive change, motivating the team to rediscover their form from the first half of the season.
