Brendan Rodgers has made it clear that Adam Idah will not be allowed to leave Celtic unless a replacement striker is signed before the transfer window slams shut on Monday.
The Irish forward has been linked with a move to Swansea City, with reports of advanced talks over a £6 million deal. However, Rodgers is unwilling to sanction any exit without at least one new forward arriving first, as he looks to strengthen a squad still light in attacking options.
Speaking to the press on Friday, the Celtic manager said:
“There is interest in Adam,” said Rodgers, quoted by TCW. “But no one can leave here unless we get players in to replace, it is as simple as that.
Idah has struggled to hit form so far this season, but with Johnny Kenny’s future uncertain and Yamada not yet convincing the manager, losing another striker without a replacement could leave Celtic dangerously short up top. Ideally, Rodgers would like two more brought in to lead the line.
Rodgers is understood to be actively pursuing attacking reinforcements, with links to names including Sambou Soumano and Danish striker Kasper Dolberg. But unless one deal is concluded swiftly, Idah looks set to remain in Glasgow beyond the deadline.
With just days remaining in the window, pressure is mounting on the Celtic hierarchy to deliver the reinforcements Rodgers has been calling for all summer.
