Rodgers’ Honest But Brutal Assessment of Celtic’s Recruitment Process

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers discussed the club’s lack of transfer business this summer.

With Matt O’Riley on the verge of joining Brighton, the Hoops will be forced into late transfer business.

A replacement for O’Riley is desperately needed, and with just five days left in the window, Celtic are up against it.

Rodgers said: (Daily Record),“There are a number of things I won’t go into here. But it’s definitely something – having come back in and gone through three windows now – we have to put right as a football club.

“We shouldn’t have been getting into this last week in the position we’re in. That’s the reality.

“However, that’s something for us for after this window. As I said, we’ll get the players in that we want. We don’t need to manufacture our own stress when there’s no need.

“We don’t need to do that. So we’ll be calm this week. We’ll look to get the players in that can strengthen us.”

Rodgers’ comments are damning, to say the least.

They reveal what a number of Celtic supporters have believed, that the club’s recruitment isn’t working.

The Irishman is clearly working to address this.

Under Rodgers, Celtic have an experienced coach dedicated to upgrading all aspects of the club, with recruitment clearly being a major focus for change.

The fact that he has been so open and honest about the situation speaks volumes about his desire to keep supporters informed.

Hopefully, over the course of the next week, he can secure the players he wants.

With the Glasgow Derby next Sunday at Celtic Park, it will be a crucial week for the Hoops.
